From giant, breathtaking mountains to tall, strong cacti as far as the eye can see. From the welcoming weather of the desert in the fall to the colorful sunsets that provoke a deep sense of wonder and gratitude. If you’ve never stepped foot in Tucson, Arizona—you are surely missing out.

The Fresh Produce Association of the Americas (FPAA) is giving industry members a reason to take to this vital region in The Grand Canyon State, hosting its highly anticipated and newly expanded Southwest International Produce Expo (#SWIPE) on November 2–4, 2023. The exciting event welcomes attendees with an impressive lineup of retailers, buyers, growers, distributors, and industry partners gathered for two days of networking and collaboration.

“#SWIPE is our opportunity to spotlight the contributions that United States importers of fresh fruits and vegetables from Mexico make to the health and wellness of North America,” shares FPAA Chairman Rod Sbragia as we dig into the details of this exciting event. “In addition, the consistency of availability of fruits and vegetables has enabled chefs and consumers to expand their offerings to customers and families through a variety of recipes with product that is now available year-round.”

So what can you expect come November 2? Attendees of this well-rounded event will have the opportunity to engage with industry leaders and experts, gaining valuable insights and establishing meaningful connections to further promote business growth.

For starters, show-goers can secure exhibition booths for a compelling produce expo, along with a range of other engaging activities. This includes a host of insightful educational sessions, advantageous networking events, an awards reception, and multiple invigorating outdoor pursuits. Other exciting events round out this industry extravaganza, like an electrifying tennis tournament and a captivating local retail tour.

The show’s educational sessions will focus on crucial issues and opportunities faced by retail and foodservice buyers when selling Mexican fresh fruits and vegetables. Key industry figures and thought leaders will participate in profound panel discussions moderated by distinguished professionals in the field, bringing insights from the likes of Ahold Delhaize, Charlie’s Produce, Markon Cooperative, Walmart Mexico, and more.

“What sets SWIPE apart is that it’s a first-of-its-kind gathering of all our local companies, whereas in other shows we might get mixed in the shuffle,” notes Raquel Espinoza, FPAA Chairwoman-Elect. “Those attending SWIPE will obtain a bird’s eye view of the trends of a very particular section of the country. Our impact on North America is huge with the percentage of product that comes from Mexico, and this will serve as an introduction of our impact to the industry, which will open a lot of doors.”

An unforgettable experience building vital connections awaits industry members at the picturesque Loews Ventana Canyon Resort in Tucson this November!

In the meantime, read on to see what a few of our produce pals are most looking forward to:

Andy Hamilton, Chief Executive Officer, Markon Cooperative

“For years I attended the former FPAA event in Nogales, and I’m looking forward to seeing the expanded show in the fun city of Tucson. The Nogales corridor in particular has always been a vital part of the North American fresh produce supply chain, and seeing many of our grower/shippers immediately prior to the 2023–24 season is ideal timing for us. The SWIPE team has been working hard to deliver a unique experience, and I’m looking forward to participating.”

Daniel Bell, Director of Produce, Grocery Outlet

“I’m really excited to attend a new show and meet new folks. It’s a great opportunity to fill in some blanks in our supplier network and come away with some new contacts, business partners, and a better understanding of the role Nogales plays in our business.”

Alan Smith, Produce Merchandiser, Harps Food Stores

“I am looking forward to FPAA to connect with new companies, produce professionals, and opportunities to find new products to bring back to our market areas.”
